The Magda scented candle is covered with a hand-crocheted raffia with refined and very decorative colors. In a mix of gray, saffron yellow and light pink, the rose pattern unfolds around a graphic structure. Its aromatic scent of mint, vetiver and ylang-ylang spreads a fresh, joyful and almost gourmet fragrance

 

 

For the seventh edition of our raffia scented candle collections, we have chosen to turn to the realm of the great Mexican artist Frida Kalho. As a committed and deeply nationalistic woman, she was a model for freedom and resilience for an entire people in a Mexico shaken by political instability. Her figurative paintings, very rich in self-portraits, constitute a diary of her sufferings. Frida Magdalena Carmen Khalo y Calderon turned to painting as a remedy for her pain. Her work is subtle, colorful, almost surrealist, although she refuses to be labeled as part of this school of artists. Frida is politically, personally and emotionally engaged. Her love for the artist Diego Rivera consumed her. We wanted to subliminally feature Frida’s corset, seen in her self-portraits, paired with a rose, symbol of her sensitive and delicate heart and used in crowns on the hairstyles of Mexican women. Where folklore and surrealism meet, four candles are thus created bearing the names of Frida and Diego. We are pleased to continue our social commitments in Madagascar, by supporting the women who follow our designs and colors with precision. Their excellence in the ancestral art of raffia and crochet shines with each passing seasons via increasingly complex patterns.
