As early as the 13th century, the Italian island of Murano, opposite Venice, became the most renowned glass-making center in Europe. Dynasties of glassmakers are born there and deve lop sophisticated glass decorations over decades. These well-guarded manufacturing secrets were exported throughout Europe and continued to bloom in France, Spain and Eastern Eu rope. We turned to the Ballarin dynasty which, as early as 1492, produced colored glass or opaline glass associated with porcelain, techniques that are still used by today�۪s craftsmen.
